Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role
As the Regional Park Field Ranger, you’ll enjoy being outdoors working in the field. This position provides involves Parks maintenance, delivering work programmes, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, plus the chance to gain real hands-on experience enhancing our natural environment.
You’ll also contribute to our fire response commitment by forming part of the Environment Canterbury Rural Fire Team as required.
Other things this role does:
- Park maintenance tasks
- Ensure the safety of the public within our parks
- Public engagement
- Parks patrolling and public events
As our Ranger function requires a continuous presence, the role includes weekend work comprising maintenance and patrol duties in Northern Pegasus Bay and in the Waimakariri and Ashley/Rakahuri Regional Parks.

Mōu │ About You
You’ll have experience and knowledge in and of fieldwork delivery; and have practical experience “on tools” in field conditions. Local knowledge of the greater Christchurch area its rivers, parks, and natural environment would be an advantage but not essential.
Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience
The ideal candidate to complement our fantastic team will:
- Have practical know-how and
- A “can do” attitude to get work done
- Have a high level of organisational skills
- Ability to work within timeframes
- Solve problems as they arise
- Display good communication skills
- Current clean class 1 drivers licence – class 2 and 4 is desirable
- Ability to work as part of a team
The ideal candidate should be able to engage in strenuous physical activities, such as patrolling trails, lifting and moving heavy objects, and maintaining park facilities.
A full, class 1 driver licence is essential, and this role requires a medical check prior to an offer of employment due to the physical nature of the job.
