Council plays an important role in responding to national legislation and policy changes – this mahi is part of our operating environment and is embedded in our everyday mahi. The current proposals from central government are significant, and Council is working through the opportunities and implications. However, our mahi must continue to deliver our three core services for our partners, communities and te taiao (environment).

Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role

As our Senior Facilities Coordinator, you'll play a critical role in ensuring Environment Canterbury's buildings and facilities operate safely, efficiently and sustainably. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day operations related to maintaining our Christchurch area assets, building strong relationships with our contractors and suppliers that are based on transparency, fairness and trust.  Close cooperation with your Timaru based colleague to develop, maintain and coordinate a uniform approach across the region is a must to ensure all our kaimahi enjoy the same level of amenity in their workplaces.  To achieve this, you will

• Develop, set and maintain consistent organisation wide standards for facilities maintenance and performance, updating as required to reflect legislative, risk profile and best practice changes and keeping Health & Safety at the forefront of all decisions.
• Constantly review the balance between planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and scheduled works to ensure efficiency, cost effectiveness while meeting operational needs.
• Oversee the efficient and sustainable use of energy, monitoring consumption and performance trends, managing faults and leading optimisation initiatives to support the organisation’s emissions reduction and climate change objectives, resilience planning, and ensuring Resource Consent conditions are met.
• Develop and actively maintain effective relationships both internal across all areas of the organisation and external, with contractors, consultants and service providers.
• Be responsible for the procurement of assets related goods and services.
• Provide support and assistance to team members as required.

This is a full-time, office-based role that requires flexibility and responsiveness, including the ability to address urgent facilities matters when they arise.

You’ll be an enthusiastic facilities professional with a strong desire to grow and develop in an exciting and challenging career.  You will be a team player, flexible and able to cope with swiftly changing priorities and situations.  You will be prepared to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in, whether that be within the traditional FM space or to assist colleagues to deliver their tasks and objectives. 

Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience  

Success in this role will come from your ability to influence stakeholders, prioritise competing demands and deliver excellent facilities outcomes in a complex multi-site environment.Ideally, you’ll have a relevant qualification in Facilities Management, Property, Asset Management, Engineering, Building Services or equivalent experience along with:

• At least 5 years' experience in facilities management, property operations or building services
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems and Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Experience managing contractors, service providers and facilities contracts
• Proven understanding of facilities compliance, risk management and health and safety requirements  

Experience with sustainability initiatives, energy management and building performance optimisation will be highly regarded.

Although this role offers the opportunity to learn and grow it is not suitable for candidates with no related experience.
