Kaunihera Taiao ki Waitaha │ About Environment Canterbury
As a regional council, we are responsible for managing natural resources including air, soil, water and land. We work in partnership with mana whenua Ngāi Tahu to protect the health of our environment to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our region.
The region’s evolving environmental and political context means we will continue to be agile and adaptive as we respond to regulatory and environmental changes.
Our mahi (work) is organised around the delivery of our three core services:
- Environmental Regulation and Protection
- Community Preparedness and Response to Hazards
Council plays an important role in responding to national legislation and policy changes – this mahi is part of our operating environment and is embedded in our everyday mahi. The current proposals from central government are significant, and Council is working through the opportunities and implications. However, our mahi must continue to deliver our three core services for our partners, communities and te taiao (environment).
Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role
Reporting to the Applications team leader and working with the Subject Matter Experts, you’ll lead the design, configuration, testing and documentation of our key software required to meet the business outcome. A key part of this role will be to work closely with the Solution Architects and our IT peers to align the solutions to the product roadmaps.
More about the role:
- Provide functional insight into the core applications to design, build, test and implement new solutions
- Create and modify functional specs and other related documentation
- Provide proactive support for incidents and offer solutions and risk assessments
- Work with cross-functional teams across multiple initiatives to provide expert input and advice
- Mentor other members of the functional team

Mōu │ About You
As the Functional Lead, ideally, you’ll be tertiary qualified with an emphasis on Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Where you can demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge and skills backed up by experience these will be considered in place of the tertiary qualification.
You’ll have more than 4 years of working experience in software support and involvement in full-cycle implementations as a preference. You'll have the ability to think about all aspects of software support and have a willingness to work across a range of technologies.
Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience
- Experience in configuring/support Dynamics 365 CRM is beneficial
- Experience/knowledge of the core D365 modules
- Experience with and or exposure to Regulatory organisations and applications will be beneficial
- Functional experience gained through implementation and support of complex solutions in a diverse organisation
- System design experience (including process analysis, business requirement gathering, etc)
- Have experience working in a team, with mentoring capability
