As a regional council, we are responsible for managing natural resources including air, soil, water and land. We work in partnership with mana whenua Ngāi Tahu to protect the health of our environment to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our region.

The region’s evolving environmental and political context means we will continue to be agile and adaptive, as we respond to regulatory and environmental changes.

Our mahi (work) is organised around the delivery of our three core services:

• Environmental Regulation and Protection
• Community Preparedness and Response to Hazards
• Public Transport

Council plays an important role in responding to national legislation and policy changes – this mahi is part of our operating environment and is embedded in our everyday mahi. The current proposals from central government are significant, and Council is working through the opportunities and implications. However, our mahi must continue to deliver our three core services for our partners, communities and te taiao (environment).

Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We're looking for an experienced communications professional to deliver Environment Canterbury's campaigns and behaviour change activities. As the organisation's channels, content and campaign specialist, you'll develop and deliver high-impact strategies that help connect our communities, stakeholders and partners with the work we do. You'll combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, using audience insights, analytics and innovation to continuously improve engagement and outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading integrated communications and engagement campaigns
• Developing audience-focused content across web, social, video, email and media channels
• Providing expert advice on channels, content strategy and campaign best practice
• Using analytics and insights to optimise performance and drive engagement
• Coaching and mentoring team members while contributing to organisation-wide initiatives

Mōu │ About You

You’ll be a senior communications professional with at least 7 years’ experience across communications, marketing, digital communications, e-commerce, or related field. You’ll bring strong behaviour change campaign experience, a strong understanding of the principles of successful campaign delivery, including analysis results, audience understanding and messaging. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are essential.

The role requires solid project management skills, including planning, delivery, and budget oversight of multiple campaigns and projects at any one time.

Experience in government or local government is advantageous, as is an understanding of te reo and tikanga Māori.

• Demonstrated success developing and delivering successful communications and engagement initiatives
• Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills across a range of platforms
• Experience using analytics tools to improve audience outcomes
• Strong relationship-building, project management and influencing skills
