As a regional council, we are responsible for managing natural resources including air, soil, water and land. We work in partnership with mana whenua Ngāi Tahu to protect the health of our environment to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our region.

The region’s evolving environmental and political context means we will continue to be agile and adaptive, as we respond to regulatory and environmental changes.

Our mahi (work) is organised around the delivery of our three core services:

  • Environmental Regulation and Protection
  • Community Preparedness and Response to Hazards
  • Public Transport

Council plays an important role in responding to national legislation and policy changes – this mahi is part of our operating environment and is embedded in our everyday mahi. The current proposals from central government are significant, and Council is working through the opportunities and implications. However, our mahi must continue to deliver our three core services for our partners, communities and te taiao (environment).

 

Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We're looking for a highly organised and customer-focused person to join our Consents Planning team. In this pivotal role, you'll provide administrative and operational support that enables the efficient processing of resource consent applications while ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and statutory timeframes.

You'll work closely with planners, applicants, consultants and internal stakeholders to deliver a high-quality customer experience and help the team achieve its strategic and operational objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting administration tasks of resource consent applications
  • Maintaining accurate regulatory records, databases and reporting systems
  • Managing documentation and workflow across the team ensuring timeframes are met
  • Responding to customer enquiries and resolving issues with a customer-first approach

With strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, you'll build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders while maintaining exceptional attention to detail. Your ability to navigate systems, understand processes, and provide excellent customer service will make you a valued member of the team.

 

Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience  

You'll bring:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a professional, customer-focused administration or support role
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage complex information accurately
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills and confidence using databases and systems
  • Demonstrated success in roles requiring a high level of accuracy and organisation

Experience with or knowledge of resource management legislation would be an advantage.
