As a regional council, we are responsible for managing natural resources including air, soil, water and land. We work in partnership with mana whenua Ngāi Tahu to protect the health of our environment to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our region.

Our mahi (work) is organised around the delivery of our three core services:

  • Environmental Regulation and Protection
  • Community Preparedness and Response to Hazards
  • Public Transport

Council plays an important role in responding to national legislation and policy changes – this mahi is part of our operating environment and is embedded in our everyday mahi. The current proposals from central government are significant, and Council is working through the opportunities and implications. However, our mahi must continue to deliver our three core services for our partners, communities and te taiao (environment).

 

Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role

The Public Transport Community Engagement Advisor plays a key role in connecting communities with Metro services. You’ll plan, deliver and evaluate engagement activities that ensure community voices help shape public transport decisions and grow advocacy for public transport across the region.

Working closely with the Senior Public Transport Community Engagement Advisor and wider Communications & Engagement team, you’ll contribute to service changes, major projects and behaviour change initiatives across the Metro network.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering community engagement for service and network changes
  • Supporting engagement for major public transport projects
  • Analysing feedback and reporting insights for decision-making
  • Building relationships with stakeholders, partners and mana whenua
  • Supporting events, training and behaviour change initiatives

You’re a confident communicator who enjoys working with diverse communities and stakeholders. You’re organised, curious and motivated by making a positive difference through effective engagement.

Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience  

Ideally, you’ll have a tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g. community engagement, marketing, public relations, information co-ordination), along with:

  • Experience in community engagement, communications or marketing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience planning or supporting engagement campaigns
  • Ability to analyse feedback and present clear insights
  • A collaborative, proactive and people-focused approach

Experience in public transport, project management or public sector environments is advantageous but not essential.
