Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
This senior role will play a significant part in the Pou Whakahaere and wider Tumu Herenga team, providing high quality, innovative advice and delivery aimed at delivering on our Tiriti partnership aspirations.
You’ll work closely with ngā Papatipu Rūnanga, partners and colleagues within the organisation to ensure projects, initiatives and deliverables are executed to deliver on the outcomes that contribute to being a Tiriti partner of excellence.
In this role you will:
- Lead the co-design and implementation of high quality, innovative Tiriti partnership-oriented business systems, aimed at delivering on Tiriti partnership expectations and commitments
- Support the project management of key partnership initiatives
- Monitor and evaluate organisational partnership systems and progress towards being a Tiriti partner of excellence
- Actively collaborate with ngā Papatipu Rūnanga, Ngāi Tahu, government agencies and stakeholders to develop and deliver initiatives
- Develop and maintain strong relationships to build trusting partnerships within the Tumu Herenga team, wider Kaunihera Taiao ki Waitaha teams, and with Tiriti partners

Mōu │ About You
You’ll have proven capability in business systems and design. You’ll also have relationship management skills, especially in te ao Māori, with the ability to translate engagement with partners into quantifiable actions and deliverables. Working in collaboration and cohesively with colleagues and partners in unfamiliar and/or complex situations is part of the experience you bring along with:
- A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its role in government and/or policy development context
- Proven experience and ability in designing business systems and innovation
- Highly developed qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, coupled with a focus on problem solving and solutions
- Strong project management capability to deliver on initiatives
- Adaptability and resilience to thrive in dynamic, challenging situations.
Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience
Relevant qualification in a related specialty that recognises the expertise which makes you fit for the role is essential, ideally supported by a post-graduate qualification or other relevant technical experience along with:
- Strong knowledge and commitment to te reo Māori and tikanga
- Experience in working with whānau/hapū/iwi and Māori communities
- A strong understanding of the context of Ngāi Tahu/Kāi Tahu and the 10 Papatipu Rūnanga within the Waitaha takiwā
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in senior or advisory roles related to partnership and delivery
- Demonstrated experience in business systems and analysis
- Proven experience and/or a relevant qualification in (for example) Māori development, business development, innovation, or demonstrated applied knowledge and experience
- Strong public sector experience
