Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role
As part of our Risk, Assurance and Security (RAS) team, you’ll play a pivotal role in continuing to embed and extend risk management capability at Environment Canterbury. You’ll help us continually review and evolve our core risk management practices. Importantly, you’ll build trusted working relationships across the organisation to transfer knowledge and embed risk ownership and action.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner across the organisation to lift capability in and engagement with core risk management practices such as risk identification, assessment, treatment and monitoring. This may include developing and delivering training and tools to support practice adoption.
- Develop and continuously refine reporting practices and tools to build awareness of the organisation’s risk profile, including effective risk escalation.
- Lead regular reviews and refresh of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) to align with leading practice.
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of a business continuity standard and associated practices.
- Conduct security risk assessments and develop appropriate treatment strategies to address identified risks.

Mōu │ About You
You’re an experienced advisor with a strong understanding of risk management, business continuity and security risk. You’re a connector and an enabler, confident in building strong working relationships with people from a wide variety of technical backgrounds, functional roles and understanding of risk management.
You’ll be comfortable adapting your approach. Some days you’ll coach, others you’ll advise or be the subject matter expert. You’re not constrained to traditional risk management practices and are confident identifying and implementing improvements.
Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience
You’ll have a relevant tertiary qualification such as a Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Laws along with:
- A minimum of 5 years in a similar senior advisor role with demonstrated experience in risk management, preferably in a large and/or complex organisation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of business continuity standards and leading practice, preferably with demonstrated experience in developing and / or leading business continuity arrangements.
- Demonstrated ability to develop trusted working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft suite and other relevant technology relevant to a complex organisation.
- The ability to develop insightful reporting to support informed decision making.
