Contribute to strengthening our Tiriti partnership through delivery excellence

As Kaihautū Whakahaere, you will be a key link within Environment Canterbury, connecting across the organisation to ensure the aspirations of our Tiriti partnership are realised.  You’ll have a key role in establishing systems to ensure delivery of partnership expectations and commitments.  You will have highly developed relationship expertise, the ability to navigate nuances of developing partnership, to be innovative and provide expert advice.  This role suits a person who is highly competent in te ao Māori, analytical and able to deliver on action that adds value to our Tiriti partnership.

Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role

This senior role will play a significant part in the Pou Whakahaere and wider Tumu Herenga team, providing high quality, innovative advice and aimed at delivering on our Tiriti partnership aspirations. 

You’ll work closely with ngā Papatipu Rūnanga, partners and colleagues within the organisation to ensure projects, initiatives and deliverables are executed and deliver on the outcomes that contribute to being a Tiriti partner of excellence.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the co-design of high quality, kaupapa Māori-aligned, Tiriti partnership implementation and delivery advice
  • Actively collaborate with Papatipu Rūnanga, government agencies, iwi and stakeholders to develop and deliver innovative initiatives that advance Tiriti partnership
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships to build trusting partnerships within the Tumu Herenga team, organisation and with Tiriti partners
  • Provide trusted and expert technical advice to senior leaders and the Executive team
  • Strengthen organisational capability to contribute to being a Tiriti partner of excellence

Mōu │ About You

You’ll have highly developed capability in relationship management, especially in te ao Māori, with the ability to translate this skill into design, quantifiable actions and deliverables.  Working in collaboration and cohesively with colleagues and partners in unfamiliar and/or complex situations, through to solutions, is just part of the experience you bring.   You’ll also have:

  • A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its role in government and/or policy development context
  • Highly developed qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, coupled with problem solving and solutions focus
  • Proven experience and ability in negotiation and influencing
  • Capability in innovation, design and implementation of partnership initiatives
  • Evidence of being pono and tika, bringing your authentic contribution to the team

 

Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience  

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in senior, leadership or advisory roles related to partnership and delivery
  • Strong knowledge and commitment to te reo Māori me ōna tikanga
  • Experience in working with whānau/hapū/iwi and/or Māori communities
  • A strong understanding of the context of Ngāi Tahu/Kāi Tahu and the 10 Papatipu Rūnanga within the Waitaha takiwā
  • A relevant qualification in (for example) Māori development, business development, innovation, or demonstrated applied knowledge and experience
  • Strong public sector experience
