Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role 

This is a new full-time role that will provide policy advice and secretariat support to the Pou Rautaki section to effectively progress Tiriti partnership engagement, coordination and facilitation support to governance partnership interfaces and forums.

Mōu │ About You 

We are looking for a policy advisor and secretariat who can effectively support governance level partnership forums to ensure that initiatives and commitments are put into action and can be monitored and reported on.  To be successful in this role you will bring:

• Qualification incorporating training in business administration and/ or an educational background in kura kaupapa Māori (Te Aho Matua) is advantageous.
• Qualification or training in the use of project management tools and techniques, or the aptitude to learn and develop these skills is desirable.
• Provide high level administrative functions and secretariat support to governance level partnership forums while building and maintaining key relationships.
• A firm understanding of working within an organisation with a strong regulatory framework and ngā kaupapa taiao/ Māori resource management obligations.
• Knowledge of local and central government, programme and relationship management experience and working at the political interface.
• Relationship building and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate, resolve, influence and engage at all levels.
• An active commitment to upholding the values, tikanga, kawa of cultural practice and traditions as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tahu.  Ideally you will also bring strong knowledge of the Ngāi Tahu tribal context.
• Knowledge, competency and fluency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga Māori, or a strong personal commitment to strengthen this area of knowledge is preferred. He ara mō ngā pūkenga me ngā raukura o Te Aho Matua anō hoki.
• An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (and its application in a public sector environment). 

Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience     

You will have a relevant qualification in business administration and/or an educational background in kura kaupapa Māori (Te Aho Matua). 

• Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated by a friendly and professional approach and the ability to communicate effectively across a diverse range of people and organisations is essential. 
• Excellent relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to engage at all levels. 

An ability and willingness to work with Ngāi Tahu whānau, hapū and iwi with an active commitment to upholding the values, tikanga and kawa as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tahu. A commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and experience incorporating whānau, hapū and iwi Māori perspectives into work programmes is also an advantage.
