As a regional council, we are responsible for managing natural resources including air, soil, water and land. We work in partnership with mana whenua Ngāi Tahu to protect the health of our environment to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our region.  

The region’s evolving environmental and political context means we will continue to be agile and adaptive, as we respond to regulatory and environmental changes.  

Our mahi (work) is organised around the delivery of our three core services:  

  • Environmental Regulation and Protection 

  • Community Preparedness and Response to Hazards 

  • Public Transport  

As part of the Strategy section, we are enhancing how we deliver an Environmental Regulation and Protection service that meets long-term needs and community expectations.  

Key to this is enhancing the way we partner with others to enhance the development, review, and integration of key regional environment strategies to achieve community outcomes in biodiversity, freshwater, air quality, and pest management.   

 

Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role 

As the Senior Advisor you’ll be joining the Regional Strategies team supporting the development, management and delivery of work programmes that contribute to Council’s strategic direction. This role requires active collaboration with partners, stakeholders, government agencies and iwi to promote Organisational strategic objectives.  

Key accountabilities: 

  • Systematically monitor & evaluate progress towards strategic outcomes 

  • Collaborate with our partners, stakeholders, government agencies and iwi  

  • Develop & maintain strong, collaborative working relationships  

  • Serve as the primary contact for governance, executive leadership, & external parties for assigned work programmes 

  • Project manage higher risk, strategic initiatives

Mōu │ About You 

You’re an experienced Strategic Advisor who is proactive, adaptable, and ready to provide high-quality advice to senior leaders and Council. You have a strong ability to analyse complex situations and offer innovative solutions that align with our strategic gaols. You’ll be an excellent collaborator, exercise diplomacy and discretion and be at ease persuading and influencing outcomes.  

 

Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience   

You’ll have a relevant university qualification supported by a post graduate qualification or other relevant technical training along with: 

  • At least five years relevant experience in the public or private sector  

  • High standard of written communication and presentation skills 

  • Strong quantitative & qualitative analytical skills & problem-solving abilities are essential 

  • Experience in strategy development, & the design & implementation of strategic monitoring & evaluation systems is highly desirable  

  • Ability to successfully manage programmes and/or projects is required

Hours of work – Permanent Full time, 40 hours per week
Location - Based at Environment Canterbury Offices – 200 Tuam Street, Christchurch
Salary - The indictive salary range for role is $87,491 to $108,078 per annum based on skills and experience. The specific salary will be discussed at interview stage.
