Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role
Joining a small team of advisors tasked with delivering the regional transport strategy and planning functions of the Council, this role provides the opportunity to think strategically and work closely with other councils, government agencies, ministries and mana whenua to improve the transport outcomes for Canterbury and the wider South Island.
More specifically, in this role you will:

  • Contribute to our statutory work on the Canterbury Regional Land Transport Plan
  • Develop and deliver high-quality strategic and policy advice on a range of transport issues
  • Lead multi-stakeholder projects and initiatives for Canterbury and the South Island
  • Work closely with the Council’s Public Transport Strategy team
  • Provide advice to senior leaders and elected members, including the Canterbury Regional Transport Committee and the South Island Regional Transport Committee Chairs Group
  • Develop collaborative working relationships, inside and outside the organisation
  • Embrace and contribute to our positive team and organisational culture 

 

Mou | About You
You’ll be a professional with at least five years of relevant experience in the public or private sector. You’ll be highly motivated, outcomes-focused, and enjoy working in a collaborative environment to achieve outcomes. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative
  • The ability to apply long-term, strategic thinking to complex issues
  • The ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships
  • Experience in successfully managing projectsnd programmes of work
  • High standards of written and presentation skills
  • The ability, or the willingness to develop an ability, to engage confidently with rūnanga and understand the goals of Ngāi Tahu
  • Knowledge of the transport planning sector, although this is not a pre-requisite for this role
