Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We have a part time (negotiable up to 30 hours), fixed term (18 months) opportunity for a talented technical leader at a Principal level to provide strategic advice for systems, protocols and process improvements to strengthen Tiriti partnership capacity and capability across the Communications and Engagement group.
This role is fixed term to enable a review and refresh of how the Council values, applies, and includes te reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori across all of Council’s communications and engagement work.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of something new and exciting - to share your talents and experience to lead change initiatives in the communications and engagement space in alignment with the organisation’s strategic change initiative, Tuia Te Herenga.
Mōu │ About You
You’ll be a strong and confident communicator with a high level of competency and fluency in te reo me ōna tikanga Māori. You’ll have an appetite for driving strengths-based approaches and innovative solutions to issues and challenges, and you will be committed to advancing effective systems change to strengthen Tiriti partnership capability.
Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience
You’ll have a tertiary qualification in communications, Māori or indigenous leadership, systems change, public relations, business innovation, or another relevant discipline.
- Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated by a friendly and professional approach and the ability to communicate effectively across a diverse range of people and organisations is essential
- Strong networking, influencing and relationship building skills with an ability to bring together diverse groups in complex or sensitive situations to reach desired conclusions and outcomes
- Professional bilingual writing, editing and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail and audience to ensure a high level of accuracy and appropriate messaging across a variety of mediums is a must
Demonstrated ability to work with Ngāi Tahu whānau, hapū and iwi with an active commitment to upholding the values, tikanga and kawa as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tahu. A commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and experience incorporating whānau, hapū and iwi Māori perspectives into work programmes is also an advantage.
