Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Improving our Compliance service is a priority for Environment Canterbury.  Now is a great time to be part of the change while delivering on our current commitments to the Waitaha/Canterbury community. 

The purpose of this permanent, full-time (40 hours per week) role is to lead a team to identify compliance work programmes for place-based teams based on organisational strategic priorities and risk intelligence, including providing performance reporting.

This role will involve:

  • Managing performance of the team in building and normalising processes for understanding the compliance risk profile and compliance performance reporting metrics.
  • Working with the other leaders within the organisation to identify compliance work for the place-based teams.
  • Leading the team to ensure agreement on their work, how they will be measured, and how they work with others in the organisation.
  • Ensuring required training is provided to do their work, including Health, Safety and Wellbeing.

Mōu │ About You

We invite applicants with capabilities in any combination of the following:

  • Tertiary qualification (Bachelor’s degree preferred) related to regional council regulatory or environmental functions (e.g., Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Policy, Natural Resources etc.) or other qualification with experience outlined below.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams over the scope of operational planning, resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge in the identification and translation of risk intelligence into work to be done.
  • Skills in delivering change for your team.
  • Ability to build social cohesion in teams that is demonstrated through positive behaviours when interacting with others.
  • Understanding of te ao Māori and te reo Māori and experience in iwi engagement, or a willingness to learn.
  • Experience in local government, knowledge of the RMA and compliance delivery.
