Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role 

The Canterbury CDEM Group Office, including Emergency Management Training Centre (EMTC) is administered by Environment Canterbury and is a Category 1 Private Training Establishment that forms part of the Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management Group.

This is located in the Justice and Emergency Services Precinct, Christchurch. 

EMTC’s key role is to enhance Civil Defence Emergency Management capacity and capability to prepare, respond and recover from significant emergency events in Canterbury.  It does this through the development and delivery of a range of courses for volunteers, staff and emergency management professionals. 

This permanent role will focus on continuous improvement of EMTC within key areas of work including:

  • Managing the EMTC Quality Management System
  • Ensuring compliance requirements are met
  • Overseeing course development and review
  • Providing support to EMTC trainers
  • Coordinating internal and external reporting requirements.

This role does not have an emergency response role but in large emergencies support may be requested.

About You │ Mōu  

You’ll be motivated by working within emergency management and delivering on outcomes while bringing an understanding of the tertiary education environment.  You’ll be a flexible personality capable of adjusting to changing priorities.

To be successful in this role you’ll bring:

  • A diploma in adult education/training or equivalent
  • Experience in Educational audit/self-review processes
  • Health and Safety system development and implementation
  • Experience working within a Tertiary Education provider
  • A collaborative team approach  
  • A high level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Meeting facilitation and report writing
  • Emergency Management operational/training experience (an advantage)
