Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role

In this role you’ll be involved with the coordination of the Geospatial Team’s internal service requests, requiring your excellent task management and customer service skills. This role will work closely with a tight-knit, fun, supportive team of Geospatial professionals who, in addition to providing geospatial services to Environment Canterbury, also deliver the highly regarded Canterbury Maps platform to the Canterbury community. You’ll have opportunities to broaden your technical skills in the ESRI platform, FME and cloud technologies.

 

  • Technical Expertise: Perform configuration and technical work for desktop, mobile, and web-based GIS applications.
  • Customer Collaboration: Engage with internal customers to define requirements, develop solutions, and ensure system compatibility.
  • Maintenance & Upkeep: Manage the technical aspects of our GIS databases, apps, maps, services, and datasets.
  • Training & Development: Provide comprehensive GIS training to staff for optimal use of our platform.
  • Community Support: Offer technical support and enhance capabilities for both internal users and the wider community.

 

Mōu │ About You

Ideally, you’ll have relevant tertiary training in GIS, Geography or Computer Science with an earth science component, or equivalent work experience. You’ll also have practical knowledge and experience of ESRI ArcGIS platform and extensions, including web, portal, mobile, and database elements.

This is an ideal opportunity to work within the existing talented team to provide sound advice and service. Bring your great communication skills and analytical thinking to help solve problems, inform decision-making, and add value to our Geospatial service delivery.

More about you:

  • 1+ years of experience in a GIS role
  • Approachable, adaptable, and confident in dealing with users at all levels
  • A great team player, eager to learn, lead and encourage
  • Passion for Geography and enthusiasm for enabling GIS users to get the most out of imagery, LiDAR and their vector data
  • Experience in FME, FME Server, ESRI mobile tools
  • Business analyst skills or support experience are advantageous
