Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role 

As a Biosecurity Officer, you'll join a great team while enjoying the autonomy to manage your daily tasks independently. You'll play a crucial role in educating landowners about their responsibilities outlined in the Regional Pest Management Plan. This role offers a blend of teamwork and individual responsibility, providing you with an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in safeguarding our environment.  

More about the role: 

  • Organising and conducting property inspections to ensure compliance 

  • Managing your own pest projects 

  • Budget oversight 

  • Operational planning and execution 

  • Contractor management 

 

Mōu │ About You 

To enjoy this role, you’ll be passionate about the environment and enjoy spending most of your time in the outdoors. You’ll have a high level of fitness and hill-walking experience as your work will take you across the region and into the high country and some of Canterbury’s most remote places where you’ll undertake inspections and control of invasive species.  

The following attributes are needed to enjoy this role: 

  • High level of physical fitness and hill-walking experience 

  • Computer literacy, specifically Microsoft and Outlook 

  • Good communication skills (written and oral)  

  • Work independently, yet also be a team-player 

  • Good work ethic and a can-do attitude toward problem-solving 

 

The following are desirable, however, not required: 

  • Knowledge of pests and pest management practices in NZ 

  • Experience in compliance or regulatory work 

  • GROWSAFE Certified Handler (agrichemical) certificate and/or Controlled Substance License 

  • Experience in using 2-wheel motorcycles and 4WD vehicles
